Guide to Beekeeping

Beekeeping is the art of raising and harvesting from beehives. Bee Hives produce Honey and Beeswax which are crafting materials, however the main purpose of your insectile friends is to increase your crop yields by being in the area.

How strong are beehives?

Beehives provide a mild health boost and productivity boost to plants within their area of effect, which is within 7 tiles and in line of sight. Numerically this is about a 5% Health boost and 0.5% to crop yield. This effect stacks per beehive covering the plant for each plant.

Bee Hive Setup

Setting up a working Bee Hive is simple, but you will need special equipment. Most of it can be obtained from the Agrolyte work area, otherwise order from the Asters Guild. You will need the following:

  • Wooden Planks
  • Bee Box
  • Smoker
  • Crowbar
  • Extractor

Assembly

With the basic materials on hand, you can assemble your first Bee Hive by following these steps:

  1. Create a Bee Hive Assembly from Wooden Planks.
  2. Assemble the Bee Hive by clicking on the Bee Hive Assembly in your hand. This will create an open Bee Hive at your position.
  3. Add Bee Hive Frames to the open Bee Hive. Bee Hive Frames can be created from Wooden Planks.
  4. Place the contents of the Bee Box into the Bee Hive
  5. Apply the Crowbar to the open Bee Hive to close it.
  6. Wait for the bees to do their work!

Harvesting

You've waited and waited and now your Bee Hive reads as full! Congratulations, you can now harvest your full Bee Hive Frames from the Hive. You can do so by following these steps:

  1. Apply the Smoker to the Bee Hive
  2. Apply the Crowbar to the Bee Hive, opening it
  3. Take out the full Bee Hive Frames
  4. Replace the full Bee Hive Frames with empty ones
  5. Apply the Crowbar to the open Bee Hive, closing it
  6. Put the harvested Bee Hive Frames into the extractor
  7. ??
  8. Profit

More (or Less) Bees!

You don't have to keep buying Bee Boxes if you want more Bee Hives - instead when a Hive is entirely populated you can split the Bee Hive into a new, empty Bee Hive. This is done as simply as using the empty Bee Box (you kept that right?) on an open Bee Hive and applying the refilled Bee Box on the empty Bee Hive.

In the case you have too many Beehives, you can disassemble an emptied Beehive by applying a screwdriver to it.

In the case you need to reposition one or more of your Beehives, you can apply a wrench to the Beehive to make it a movable piece of furniture.
